3 Days in Seoul: A Realistic Itinerary for First-Time Visitors
3 Days in Seoul: A Realistic Itinerary for First-Time Visitors
Hey! So you're planning a 3-day trip to Seoul? I've been here for three years now, and I see a lot of tourists trying to cram way too much in. Let me give you a realistic plan that won't leave you completely exhausted.
Day 1: Classic Seoul (Palace + Markets)
Morning: Gyeongbokgung Palace
Start early—grab a coffee and head to Gyeongbokgung (경복궁) when it opens at 9 AM. Admission is ₩3,000 (seriously, it's cheap). The palace is massive, so give yourself 2-3 hours. The changing of the guard happens at 10 AM and 2 PM if you want good photos.
If you want to rent a hanbok (traditional dress), there are rental shops nearby for ₩15,000-30,000. Honestly? Go for it. Everyone does, and it's fun.
Lunch: Bukchon Area
Walk down to Bukchon Hanok Village (북촌한옥마을)—it's literally a 15-minute walk from the palace. Grab lunch at one of the tiny restaurants or cafes. Budget ₩10,000-15,000 per person. The neighborhood itself is incredibly photogenic, so don't rush.
Afternoon: Insadong
Head to Insadong (인사동) for traditional Korean crafts, tea shops, and random galleries. It's touristy but genuine. This area is genuinely fun to wander—no pressure itinerary needed.
Evening: Myeongdong
Take the subway (Line 3 to Anguk, then switch to Line 1 toward Myeongdong). Myeongdong is exactly what you expect—crowded, neon, Korean cosmetics stores everywhere. Eat street food (₩5,000-8,000 per item) and do your shopping. Skip if you hate crowds.
Budget Day 1: ₩60,000-80,000 per person (excluding shopping)
Day 2: Modern Seoul (Shopping + Neighborhoods)
Morning: Hongdae (홍대)
Take Line 2 to Hongdae Station. This neighborhood has the best cafes, independent shops, and street art. Honestly, just walk around aimlessly—that's the point. Stop for coffee at literally any cafe; they're all good.
Lunch: Eat Anywhere
Grab Korean fried chicken and beer (chimaek, 치맥) at any pojangmacha (food tent). Cost: ₩15,000-20,000.
Afternoon: Gangnam (강남) or Itaewon (이태원)?
Gangnam Option: Go shopping at underground malls (COEX, Gangnam Station area). Line 2 takes you directly there. It's upscale and exhausting but very Seoul.
Itaewon Option: Head to Itaewon if you want international food, second-hand shops, or just something different. The vibe is totally different from the rest of Seoul. Cafes, antique stores, and decent restaurants.
Evening: Han River Park (한강공원)
Take the subway to Yeouido Park Station or Gangbyeon Station. Grab convenience store beer and snacks (₩8,000-15,000) and chill by the river. Sunset is around 5:30 PM in winter, 7:30 PM in summer. Locals do this constantly—it's genuinely relaxing.
Budget Day 2: ₩50,000-70,000 per person
