The Perfect 2-Day Seoul Itinerary: A Foreigner's Honest Guide

After three years here, I've learned that two days in Seoul is tight, but totally doable if you're strategic. Here's what actually works without running yourself ragged.

Day 1: Royal Palaces & Traditional Seoul

Morning (7:00 AM - 12:00 PM)

Start early at Gyeongbokgung Palace (경복궁) before it gets crowded. The entrance fee is 3,000 KRW—honestly the cheapest tourist activity in Seoul. If you wear hanbok (한복, traditional Korean dress), you get in free. Rental shops are everywhere nearby in Bukchon; expect 15,000-40,000 KRW depending on quality.

Get there via Line 3 (Gyeongbokgung Station, Exit 5). Grab coffee at one of the tiny cafes on the walk there—you'll find decent americanos for 3,500-4,500 KRW.

Lunch (12:00 PM - 1:30 PM)

Head to Insadong (인사동), which is literally two subway stops away. It's touristy, sure, but there's a reason foreigners love it. Grab bibimbap (비빔밥) or kalguksu (칼국수) for 8,000-12,000 KRW at any restaurant on the main street. The food is solid and they're used to foreigners.

Afternoon (1:30 PM - 6:00 PM)

Spend 2-3 hours exploring Bukchon Hanok Village (북촌한옥마을). This is the postcard-perfect area with traditional houses (한옥). It's steep and winding—wear comfortable shoes. There's genuinely no entrance fee; you're just walking through residential streets. The vibe is incredible around sunset.

Pop into a tea house (다방) for traditional Korean tea—around 8,000 KRW. Osulloc (오설록) is the famous one, but honestly, smaller independent spots are nicer and cheaper.

Evening (6:00 PM - 10:00 PM)

Take the subway to Myeongdong (명동) for dinner. Yeah, it's packed with tourists, but the food courts are efficient and cheap. Spend 10,000-15,000 KRW on dinner. Grab some skincare at Olive Young (올리영) or Stylenanda if you want to bring gifts home.

Walk around Namsan (남산) at night if you have energy. The illuminated streets are beautiful, and it's free.

Day 2: Modern Seoul & Nightlife

Morning (8:00 AM - 12:00 PM)

Start at Hongdae (홍대). It's artsy, younger, and feels less touristy than downtown. Grab breakfast at a local cafe—this neighborhood has genuinely good ones. Budget 6,000-10,000 KRW for a nice coffee and pastry.

Walk around the Free Wall (자유벽) and street art alleys. Completely free, super Instagram-worthy. If you're interested in street performances, check what times they run (usually afternoons/evenings).

Lunch (12:00 PM - 2:00 PM)

Try Korean fried chicken (치맥—fried chicken and beer). A half chicken runs about 12,000-16,000 KRW. It's a cultural experience, not just food. Many places deliver via Coupang Eats if you want to eat in your guesthouse.

Afternoon (2:00 PM - 5:00 PM)

Head to Gangnam (강남) via Line
